SHOP TALK: Wabi Sabi

This time of year calls for couch time and hot tea. But you can’t spend your whole life in front of a TV or taking in reams of thought-provoking literature. For creative folks, this time calls for a hobby — an activity that will keep your mind active, perhaps even produce a little something for under the Christmas tree. Enter Wabi Sabi, Ottawa’s hip knitting/sewing/weaving store. Hip knitting? But of course, especially when you include those “materials provided; no experience necessary” classes held in store, like the Nuno Felting class on Oct. 28, which calls for “water, soap, wool, silk, and elbow grease.” See website for full schedule and course details.

The Look: Cute and colourful; industrial chic

Perfect for: crafty types, stitch’n’bitchers

USP: their pretty studio is available for rent
